ProfessionalismIt is vital that future teachers adhere to professional and ethical standards, and this course is an opportunity to practice those skills.
Professionalism includes: attendance, being on time, submitting assignments on time, and being prepared for class. These elements will be monitored throughout the course, and individual discussions will occur if there are any concerns with a teacher candidates professional disposition. For this course, teacher candidates will be expected to come to class each week prepared to participate. They should complete a notecard or one page sheet of notes for each theory based on the chapter readings. On one side of the notecard or sheet, teacher candidates will need to include key bulleted information related to the theory. On the other side, teacher candidates should write any questions they have to incorporate into discussion. The instructor will ask to see this sheet each class meeting. Total points: 200 Theory Presentations (3)Students will prepare a 15-20 minute presentation on three different theories. Teacher candidates will select their presentations in the first class. Presentations should include an activity and a visual aide (powerpoint, prezi, poster). Presentations should include how the theory will relate in a classroom setting for elementary, middle and high school learners.
Total points: 300 (100 each) |
Research AnalysisStudents will work in teams to compare and contrast the theories researched. The group will submit an APA formatted paper, and we will discuss your research in class.
Total points: 240 Discussion QuestionsThis course will utilize this website for a weekly online discussion question. As we will meet once a week, as opposed to twice a week, this forum will allow for more in depth coverage of material. Online discussion questions need to be submitted prior to the class meeting. So, for the first week's class, there will not be a discussion question. The question will be posted and explained during class, and then must be responded to prior to the class meeting the following week (preferably 24 hours.) There will be 8 discussion questions, worth 20 points each.
Total points: 160 Lesson PlanStudents will present a 15-20 minute lesson plan as it relates to a developmental theory. The lesson plan will include goals, Common Core Standards, and implementation strategies for students with special needs.
